Grade II. Two probable eighteenth to nineteenth century milestones. Next to 82 Oxford Road Denham. One reading 'London 16, Oxford 38, Beaconsfield 7'; the other 'Half a mile from River Colne'. (B1).
Recorded as present in 2001 on A40 Uxbridge to Stokenchurch route National ID number BU_LW16a. On east side of road, outside 82 Oxford Road, to right of gate of Milestone Cottage near roundabout close to M40. 45cm wide, 33cm deep, 87cm high. Inscription: front: HALF A MILE FROM THE RIVER COLNE. 'River' painted over. Carved benchmark at bottom. Two milestones one either side of gate. Possibly one or both moved; see National ID number BU_LW16 CAS 1218600000. [Detailed description, location and photograph] (B2).

According to Peter Gullands extensive study The Toll Roads of Buckinghamshire 2017 these milestones were originaly on the The Red Hill and Beaconsfield Turnpike Road road 9 p.137. The trust road was 7 and a half mile long all in Buckinghamshire mostly A40 today. Milestones were n place by 1763 and ran from London 16 in Oxford raod New Denham to London 23 in London Road Beaconsfeild. Afer the tusts closed in the 1880s and 1890s missing nilenarkers on some roads were replaced with wth what the Milestones Society cals Bucks Pressings.
