Description

Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century cast iron milepost on the B4011 in Boarstal parish. Recorded as present in 2010 on Milestones Society website on Thame to Blackthorn route National ID number BU_THBC07. On grass verge on Foresters Lane in Boarstall Wood, on west side of road. 52cm wide, 35cm deep, 90cm high. Inscription: left: BICESTER 7 MILES : right: THAME 7 MILES: top changed from OAKLEY PARISH to BOARSTALL PARISH. [Detailed description and photograph] (B1).
Shown on 1835 1-inch county OS map (sheet XXVI). Inscription: Bicester 7 Thame 7, Boarstall Parish on top. On Blackthorn to Long Crendon route. In good condition: cast iron mile post: some painted letters. [Handwritten notes and illustration] (B2).
