Description
Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century cast iron milepost on the B4011 in Oakley on Thame Road opposite church. Recorded as present in 2010 on Milestones Society website on Thame to Blackthorn route National ID number BU_THBC06.' Behind rail by roadside leaning and badly corroded '. On south sde of road 52cm wide 35cm deep 90cm high Inscription: not legible but was: left: BICESTER 8 MILES : right: THAME 6` MILES. Not on all levels of OS map so estimated on map. Confirmed by handwritten notes under ' MILE STONES [ N.] Thame to Blackthorn'. NGR : 642 122. Parish: Oakley Village. No number on 1" OS 1835. Information: Poor: opp. Church: metal mile post ( T. 6 B. 8 ). Postioned at this NGR. [ Handwritten notes consulted ] (B2).
