SP 701131 Deserted Md village of Pollicott (B6).
The remains of a deserted Md village in permanent pasture, on spurs separated by an old watercourse, to the E of a flood-plain. The spur centred at SP 701 132 has been quarried for sand and disturbed by later banks, so that only vague, unsurveyable traces of Md settlement survive. At 'A' SP7017 1318 on a prominent crest, is a circular, ditchless mound with a depressed centre, measuring circa 13.0 m in diameter and 0.6m high. It may be a mill mound associated with the village, though the possibility of a barrow cannot be dismissed. On the spur centred SP701 130 are a number of plots, scarped into a NW-facing slope, indicating the remains of the village, though no
street pattern can be recognised. The name Pollicott cannot be verified and the date and reason for desertion is not known. To the N, S and E much rig and furrow.
Surveyed at 1:2500. Not listed in Deserted Medieval Villages 1971 (M Beresford & J.G Hurst) (B10).
NRHE update 2004 (B11).
