(SP 83940849) Roman Building (R) (site of) (B15).
The site was found in 1858 by John S Stone of Terrick House when removing flint from a field which had always been known as King's Field and is situate at Terrick "on the N side of the high road leading from Stoke Mandeville to Chequers Court and on the N side of, and near to Terrick turnpike gate". Rough foundations, mainly unmortared, of a roughly rectangular building were found with an enclosure on the NW side. (See plan for dimensions etc). Abutting on the NE Corner was a pit or cesspool containing animal bones and shells together with fragments of tiles and RB pottery. No metal was found except two bronze coins evidently Roman, one in the foundation and the other a short distance off. Several Roman coins had been previously found in the field by labourers (B3).
SP 839085. The foundations of a small villa beneath which. in a pit, were found two pots of Belgic type (B7).
There is a wide, light scatter of Roman brick fragments within the field, at present freshly ploughed, with a localised concentration in the area of the OS 6" siting, where also is a scatter of sherds of black and grey pottery. Nothing else of interest was noted (B16).
