Description

FINDS CONSISTED OF BLADE CORES MADE ON FLINT NODULES, BLADES COMPLETE & SNAPPED, & RETOUCHED BLADES, & TOOLS (B1).
SCARCITY OF FINISHED TOOLS, RELATIVE ABUNDANCE OF CORES & HOMOGENOUS NATURE OF FLAKING SUGGESTS WORKING FLOOR OF SHORT DURATION WHILE SAND BEING REDEPOSITED BY WIND (B2,3).

A number of mesolithic flints were found by Mr J Plowman during 1962-3 while sand was being excavated from Marlines Sandpit. The pit lies immediately to the north of the Marlow to Stokenchurch road between Bolter End and Cadmore End (approximatley sited at SU 796924 from sketch map). The finds included cores flakes and blades whose general character seems to resemble that of the Horsham industries; the site, on sand, is typically Horsham.

The collection is now in Aylesbury Museum (B5) .

The site was indicated to me on the OS 6" by the mother of Mr J Plowman at SU 7958 9243, who said that the finds were made in the face of sand workings, which have now been worked out (B6).

SU 797 923. Twenty eight cores, 391 unretouched blades or flakes, two scrapers, one graver and six other worked pieces (B7).

NRHE insert 1998 (B8).
