Description

PALEOLITHS PICKED UP IN A CUTTING FOR NEW ROAD, MADE THROUGH PROMONTARY. SECTION SHOWED 1) HUMUS; 2) 1-3M OCHREOUS CLAYEY & SANDY GRAVEL; 3) 0.5-2.5M MOTTLED IMPURE CLAY; 4) BEDS OF PURE BLUE & GREY CLAYS. MOST FINDS FROM GRAVEL. ACHEULEAN (B1-7).
AXES MARKED DENHAM 5.5.28 PROB ALSO FROM THIS SITE (B5).
In 1928 flint implements were discovered in a road cutting through a glacial promontory at Normer Hill (present-day Northmoor) in Bucks. These consisted of 14 acheulean handaxes and several other stone tool implements, for example, cores and retouched and waste flakes, making up a basically acheulean/clactonian industry (B11).
