Description

Missing eighteenth or nineteenth century cast iron milepost on A41 in Ludgershall parish. Recorded on Milestones Society survey website missing from Aylesbury Bicester route near Leaches Farm National ID number BU_LCB50.' Last recorded in 1963'. Recorded on OS map.Top: Ludgershall Parish: right: London 50: left: To Aylesbury 12 To Bicester 4. [Description and location] (B1).
Confirmed by handwritten notes on 1" OS map (1835) sheet XXI page 7 of notes. Inscription: London 50 Bicester 4. Was in Oxon. On Bicester to Aylesbury (H3) route. In same notes under " H3 Milestones on Ground" on Bryant 1825 and OS 1" 1835. Number 1" OS 49. Was in good condition: cast iron milepost: embossed letters + mileages: leaning slightly. (A41) see sketch below. Top London 50 Ludgershall Parish: left: To Aylesbury 12 Miles: right: To Bicester 4 Miles. NGR 646 199 Ludgershall Parish.
