Description

Building recording carried out by AS&C in April 2009 to English Heritage level 3. 'Building 2' is a single-storey brick and stone building with clay tile roof and measures 9.49m X 8.33m and ?6.08m high. There are central stable doors in the NE and SW sides and a window on either side of the each door. The building is divided into three animal pens, a single large pen on one side of the central access and two smaller pens on the other side. There are drainage channels and traces of food troughs, mangers and stalls in two of the three pens, all of which are accessed by gates. Estate records describe the building as a piggery or calf pens in the 1960s, in 1982 it was being used as a stables. See report for detailed description, photographs and plan (B1).
