Description
Shown on 1st edition 25-inch and 6-inch maps as 'Rectory' and on Bryant's 1825 county map. From 1900 until the 1960s the rectory is shown at the building now known as 'The Old Rectory', and the 19th century rectory is shown as 'Chenies House'. The current rectory is a modern building within the gardens of 'Chenies House'. Chenies House was demolished in 2003 (B1).
[In 1862] the Rectory House is a large modern building, close to the church. The Rectory, valued at £12, 16s, 01/2 d, is in the gift of the Duke of Bedford. The tithes have been commuted for £411, 6s, 8d, and there are 30 acres of glebe (B2).
