Description

A field survey was undertaken in the grounds of Grange Farm, Shipton Lee. East of the fishponds were two low embankements linked to a roughly oval mound. These were originally thought to be remnants of ridge and furrow but the field name is warren, and so it is thought that these features are actually pillow mounds for breeding rabbits (B8).
Evaluation trial trenching carried out by John Moore Heritage Services in June 2007 included a trench (Trench 12) across one of the suggested pillow mounds. This was found to comprise a number of dumped layers, interpreted as spoil and demolition debris post-dating the late 17th or 18th century (B10).
