Description

Chiltern District Council Offices, designed by Melvin, Lansley & Mark in 1984-6, dominate the Civic Centre. Built of brick in a folksy style with lots of fussy details. E-plan, the centre stroke is the square council chamber with pyramid roof and municipal balcony, linked to the wings by a glazed lean-to corridor. The ground floor is open on arches to the car park beneath (B2).
Architects' plans, section and elevation drawings submitted with planning application. Planning permission granted on 6th February 1985 (B3).
Building completed for a cost of £4.8 million and offices opened to the public on 22nd July 1986. Official opening by Princess Anne on 13th November 1986 (B4).
