Description

Grade II. Stable, shelter sheds and cowsheds. C18 and C19. Outer walls facing fields witchert on rubblestone plinths. Rendered to west and colourwashed to north. Corrugated asbestos roofs. Letter-L plan ranges. North range has stable to 2 east bays with south stable door and 2-light window. Then 6 open fronted bays. West arm has north section of 5 bays, open to farmyard. South section of 6 bays with weatherboarded elevation to farmyard. Double purlin roofs (B6).
Building recording carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in June 2006 concluded that the buildings were probably built in the late C18, with the cow-house range built after the granary and the shelter shed built shortly after the cow-house range. The open arcade of the shelter shed was probably in-filled with weatherboarding in the mid or late C19. The cow house seems to have had the attic floor removed and been converted into open-fronted cattle shelters in the mid-C20. See report for detail (B7).
Further detailed building recording by Oxford Archaeology in June 2009 suggests the cow house was built in the late 18th or 19th century, and the shelter shed built in 1835 (dated beam). The shelter shed was demolished in 2009 and some timbers from the frame and roof have been incorporated into a new building on the same footprint. See report for detail (B9).
