Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out in November 2002 by Northamptonshire Archaeology found evidence of mid 11th to 13th century domestic occupation of backlands probably associated with properties fronting the market place or a possible trackway leading to the river (trackway is shown in 17th or 18th century maps). The development of deep soils horizons after the late 13th century suggest that the site reverted to agricultural or garden use until the late 17th century. See report for detail (B1).
