Description

Following the identification of cropmarks during a walk-over survey, geophysical survey was carried out by GeoQuest in March 1999 in advance of proposed development of a service station on the M40. Magnetic anomalies interpreted as the remains of two possible ditches were identified. The eastern ditch is aligned NE-SW and is up to 4m wide. The western ditch is of similar width with a negative anomaly on the same alignment to the west, possibly stone reveting or a stone rubble bank (B1).
Further geophysical survey carried out in March and April 1999 identified that the negative anomaly associated with the western ditch continued further to the west before running parallel with the current field boundary, and was interpreted as a possible rubble track (B2).
