Description

The southern most tip of the former common became part of a small roadside field and enclosure in 1855. The back of this can still be seen as a low scarp. The southern most tip of this plot was taken into the neighbouring field in the 20th century and the rest became plantation (B1).
Miles Greens' History of Penn Wood notes that Penn Wood and Wycombe Heath were enclosed in 1855 and the land awarded to 57 local landowners. Lord Howe received 862 acres, includuing 115 acres as compensation for the loss of rights as Lord of the Manors of Penn and Segrave. The remaining 199 acres were divided between 12 landowners who received between 2 and 80 acres, and a further 44 who received allotments of mostly less than 0.25 acres (B2).
