Type and Period (1)

  • DRIVE (18th Century - 1700 AD to 1799 AD)

Description

The English Heritage survey of Stowe undertaken in 2001 notes a linear earthwork, 40m log x 4m wide x 1.5m high, being the remains of a drive which brough visitors to Stowe along the southern edge of the gardens within the Ha Ha. The gap in the feature towards the eastern end aligns with the South Vista, and suggests that it was taken out of use once the view was established (1).
