Description

English Heritage's Survey fo Stowe undertaken in 2001 notes the hollow way which marks the route of the old Buckingham to Towcester Road through Stowe Park. A farm track follows its course in the south ands it becomes a substantial earthwork between Lamport and the Bourbon Tower. Faint earthworks N and S of the tower show where the feature continues to the N (2).

Sections of medieval hollow way are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located between Bourbon Tower and Lamport shrunken medieval village and centred at SP 68353 37769, a linear ditch up to 13 metres wide extends from Bourbon Tower SSE for about 330 metres, terminating just east of Lamport Lodge. About 122 metres from the N end of the hollow way, a second linear hollow way up to 10 metres wide extends 262 metres NW-SE, bisecting it to form a crossroads (4-5).
