Description
The National Trust's survey for Stowe undertaken in 1989 listed this location for the former site of the 'Chinese House' - a wooden structure built onto piles in the lake whose exterior and interior was decorated with 'Japan Work'. The structure had an effigy of a sleeping Chinese lady inside. Likely to have been built in 1730-40s, but removed to Lord Temple's brother's seat, Wooton House, in the 1750s. Known to now be located at Harristown House, Kildare (B18).
