Description

Brief description in c.1862 (B5).
Description & plan (B7).
The National Trust Survey of Stowe undertaken in 1989 notes that this is a 20ft high water fall contained within a rustic arch of monumental limestone. The abutments are limestone rusticated by blocks of tuffa held in place with iron clamps. Behind the waterfall is a long tunnel with a plug used to drain the lake. The lake dates to 1730. The tuffa may be a later addition as it appears later in other monuments in the garden (B18).
