Description

The National Trust's Survey of Stowe undertaken in 1989 note two gate piers with stone ball finials. This route was the main entrance until the 1730s when the drive was re-routed around the gardens. In an 1805 drawing by Nattes, a bell is shown on top of one of the piers (B18).
