The National Trust Survey of Stowe undertaken in 1989 described the building as a one-storey Gothic lodge, designed and built by Blore in 1839-44. The house has been extended at the back. The iron carriage gates hang from brick and stone piers pierced by a pedestrain entrance. There is the remains of a bell-pull in the southern pier. These are the only surviving park gates (B20).
