Description
UNUSUALLY LARGE FIBULA. BEARS MARKS OF BYZANTINE ORIGIN. PROB BELONGED TO A C11 ECCLESIASTIC (B1).
INNER SURFACE GILT (B3).
FIBULA OF LARGE SIZE WITH CHRISTIAN EMBLEM. DATED BY COMPARISON (EG MINCHINHAMPTON, GLOS & ASHENDEN, BUCKS) TO C4/C5 (B4).
SAUCER BROOCH CRUCIFORM WITH CURVED ANIMALS - EARLY AS (B8).
A large saucer brooch with a cruciform design was found in the garden of the vicarage at SP782122. Traces of cloth still adhered to the iron pin, from which it is assumed that the brooch came from an inhumation (B1 & B11).
