Description
Watching brief during excavation of electricity cable trench finds possible chalk and mortar wall foundations and various Roman finds. 2 distinct horizons. Sherds of black-burnished ware and of a mica-dusted fabric, fragments of brick and tile, a single fragment of green painted wall plaster, fragments of opus signinum and a single Roman coin, badly corroded and therefore unidentifiable - suggested C3-C4 date. Material almost certainly associated with possible nearby Roman villa. However, difficult to identify the particular site formation processes which have led to separation of two groups of features containing RB material by layer of silty clay - possible colluvium (B10).
