  • GARDEN (House demolished 1758, 17th Century - 1600 AD? to 1699 AD)

Description

These gardens are often praised by authors of county house and garden books such as Sheahan (1862), Pevsner (1994) and Desmond (1984). Contained a number of things including orange trees, parterres, walled gardens, formal gardens and parkland. Large 17th century manor house was destroyed in 1758, along with it the gardens as well. Only small fragments survive. Unknown dates of construction. Connected with Waddesdon manor, supposedly in the same grounds but the EH register makes no reference to Winchendon Manor. See HPGRR for further details of the confusion. (B12).
