Description
C13-14 SHERDS FOUND BY A T JEFFS & C C STANLEY DURING ROAD WORKS (B5).
C13-14 WARES, RIM OF BOWL IN CALCITE-GRITTED WARE, 1 GREYWARE SHERD; ABOUT 40 MEDIEVAL SHERDS, INCLUDING THUMB PRESSED RIMS ETC;13 SHERDS BUFF ORANGE & GREEN GLAZED WARES. ALL FROM DMV SITE (B6).
A FEW SHERDS EITHER SIDE OF A41 (B9,B11).
Test Pitting
PHASE 1- Two pits produced sherds of 13-15th-century pottery
PHASE 2- 3,8,13,15,19 produced sherds of 13th-16th century pottery (B12)
Test pit 2 contained a rectangular pit which was not excavated
Possible rough stone surface in test pit 6, immediately south-west of the church, likely of medieval date.
Metal Detecting
PHASE 1- Small lead token, 12th-15th century belt loop, and a sherd of pottery.
PHASE 2- 2 medieval coins recovered: a silver penny, and a long cross silver penny +1272; 2 buckle fragments and pottery of 11/12th and 13th-15th century date (B12).
