Description

Dimensions - Width 0062 Depth/Thickness 0038 Length 0112 mm
CRUDE BI-FACIAL POINTED AXE, MADE ON A BROAD FLAKE STRUCK FROM A NODULE OF YELLOW-STAINED OCREOUS FLINT. FLAKE WAS STRUCK FROM THE CORTICAL SURFACE OF A LARGE FLATTISH PEBBLE C.50MM THICK. BUTT-TO-TIP AXIS OF THE FINISHED PIECE LIES AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE 2 MAIN FLAKE SURFACES. FOUND BY MR C O'SULLIVAN IN OLD GRAVEL WORKINGS AT N END OF HILLFORT (B15).
Site noted in English Rivers Palaeolithic Survey. Old workings still visible(B20-21)
