During WW2 milemarkers were removed some were not returned or put back in wrong place. After the trusts closed in 1880s and 1890s highway authorities district or county or parish replaced missing milemarkers on some roads with what The Milestones Society calls Buckinghamshire pressings metal posts wth two white faces and back paint inscriptions.
