Description

GRADE II. BUILT OF LARGE BLOCKS OF BROKEN CONCRETE FORMING SMALL CIRCLE. ENTRANCE ARCH OF VERY LARGE STONES. POSSIBLY OF MATERIAL FROM OLD LONDON BRIDGE (B2).
The Grotto was also constructed for Lady Grenville, possibly with material from the Old London Bridge forming the arch and central lily pond. Mention is made of rose pillars, ranging from 7 to 21 feet, set around the pool.. (B20)
Current condition -2006- Grotto has recently been cleared and is in good repair. Central pond still present, although much of the ornamentation is missing. No evidence of the rose pillars (B20)
