Description

Grade I. Early C19 and symmetrical in plan and elevation. Cast-iron cage; ceramic green tiles around base, as uprights and as frieze imported from China. Built against wall with 3 projections on which cupolas. Central cupola higher than outer 2. Inside the cages, 4 fountains with shells in basins (B2).
Included in English Heritage's Buildings at Risk Register. In 1999-2002 described as priority A: 'Immediate risk of further rapid deterioration or loss of fabric; no solution agreed'. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 described as priority 5 (B): 'Immediate risk of further rapid deterioration or loss of fabric; solution agreed but not yet implemented'. In 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 described as priority F: 'Repair scheme in progress and (where applicable) end use or user identified; or functionally redundant buildings with new use agreed but not yet implemented'. Removed from register in 2022 following completion of repairs (B8-13,B17,B20-27).
