Description
Dimensions - Length 28m, Width 6m.
BRIDGE CARRYING ABBEY BARN LANE OVER FORMER BOURNE END-WYCOMBE RAILWAY. STILL EXTANT BUT IN POOR CONDITION. BUILT OF RED BRICKS (B4).
The bridge, 26.4m in length and 7.87m wide, is a single span segmental arch bridge in red, orange and brown brick with flat spandrels and abutments, and stepped parapets. The tops of the parapets contain smooth orange bricks and are capped with black engineering bricks - standard 9 x 4.5 x 2.5 inch. Arch is 6.31m above current level of the track bed. The abutments, spandrels and parapets are built in English bond. The coping of the parapets is formed of black engineering bricks laid on their sides with the headers facing out. There is evidence that the parapets have been raised in places with the addition of orange bricks of a smoother texture than those used for the rest of the structure (B13).
