Fourteenth century windmill mound, surviving as an earthwork in the grounds of Penn House; date confirmed by trial trenching.

Description

Dimensions - Radius 15m, Height 240 cm.
Plan Form - Subcircular.
Topographic survey carried out by Chess Valley Archaeological and Historical Society in 1989 (B1).
Small excavation to date mound. Trench 1.5m wide cut across outer ditch to mound centre. Original ditch bottom was 0.45m below current bottom. Fill contained tile & pottery sherds. Single construction phase suggested, material coming from ditch & nearby small pit. Ceramic evidence suggests C14 date (B2-3).
