2 TRIAL TRENCHES WERE MACHINE DUG (JCB) IN GARDENS IN NEW STREET. NO ARCHAEOLOGICAL FEATURES OR STRATIGRAPHY OF PRE C18 DATE REVEALED. WORK CARRIED OUT IN ADVANCE OF ROAD WIDENING TO ASCERTAIN IF ANY TOWN DEFENCES WERE ON LINE OF NEW STREET. LOCATION MAP FILED (B1).
