Description

AREA OF BURNT CLAY (MWY 5S7), EXPOSED BY MACHINE STRIPPING, WAS EXCAVATED. IT WAS A PIT WITH A LEVEL BASE, TOO SHALLOW FOR A CLAY PIT, CONTAINING MUCH FORMLESS, SOFT, RED-FIRED CLAY, CHARCOAL, A BURNT PEBBLE & SOME POTTERY, BUT NO SIGN OF IN-SITU FIRING. CLEARLY NEAR A KILN, BUT FUNCTION UNKNOWN (B2).
