Description

AREA OF BURNT CLAY, EXPOSED BY MECHANICAL STRIPPING, WAS EXCAVATED & PROVED TO BE A SMALL CLAY PIT, CONTAINING PLENTIFUL POTTERY & BURNT CLAY FRAGMENTS. THE PIT WAS DUG INTO THE VALLEY SIDE JUST ABOVE THE STREAM AT A POINT WHERE NATURAL GRAVELLY CLAY GAVE WAY TO YELLOW CLAY (B1-2).
