Description

CLAY PIT SITUATED TO THE N OF KILNS 3 & 4, EXPOSED WHEN A CHANNEL WAS CUT TO RE-ROUTE RIVER ALDERBOURNE. PIT WAS BACKFILLED WITH DARK SOIL & A GREAT DEAL OF POTTERY. SAMPLES TAKEN FROM PIT & ANALYSED SUGGEST IT WAS A CLAY SOURCE FOR THE POTTERY FIRED IN THE KILNS (B1).
