Description

Founded c.1180; dissolved 1548; re-founded later. For master, brothers & sisters caring for poor (B11).
1344 patronage of mayor & burgesses of town (B2).
Some Roman material incorporated (B9).
Remains probably infirmary hall, aisles built c.1180. Detached wall to SE part of chapel. Structurally all right (B13).
In 1549 the mayor and burgesses of Wycombe had the hospital building and its land conveyed to them on payment of £30, for use as a grammar school [see CAS0037601000](B19).
Grade II. Ruins circa 1180-90 of St John's Hospital, dissolved 1553. Arcades on columns, probably part of the Refectory. Ashlar and rubble, no roof. Ancient Monument (scheduled but not in guardianship). Forms a group with Wycombe College of Technology and Art (B17).
