Plan Form - LINEAR
N OF 2 CROPMARKS SECTIONED; SHOWN TO BE A DITCH 1.5M DEEP, ROUNDED V IN SECTION (SECTION DRAWING FILED). EROSION IN S SIDE OF SECTION SUGGESTS BANK MAY HAVE BEEN ON N SIDE (B1). REPORT ON SECTION CUT THROUGH THIS CROPMARK & COMPARISON WITH LENGTH OF DITCH AT HASTOE, HERTS, EXCAVATED 1973 (B4).
Linear earthworks at Incombe Hole and on Steps Hill visible on 1946 RAF APs. Dyer's Boundary Dyke Ia (B7, B10).
Detailed topographic survey carried out by Network Archaeology in 1998 at Steps Hill and Incombe Hole show earthworks continuing line of northern cropmark (between SP95721574 and SP95851584). 2 profiles across earthworks also recorded (B8).
Further detailed topographic survey carried out by TimeScape and Network Archaeology recorded traces of surviving earthworks south of Incombe Hole. Magnetometer survey carried out immediately to the north of the earthwork on Steps Hill (at SP95891590) indicated that the bank may contiue for at least 30m to the northeast (B9).
