Description

Grade II. Bronze statue after Giovanni da Bologna of Pluto and Prosperine on high stone pedestal on steps and with inscription in Italian verse with date 19 February 1861. Bought by Lord Astor from the Villa Borghese (B7).
Sculpture now believed to be by Vincenzo de' Rossi (1525-1587). Original on long-term loan to the V&A Museum since about 1989; a replica is in the parterre garden at Cliveden (B30).
