Description
Palaeolithic implements with no close provenance than Iver parish appear in many museums (see archive sheets, NB only 00:004 is directly linked to the find described, other archive entries refer to collections of mixed artefacts). Most probablt from gravels rather than brickearth (B9).

NRHE description: (TQ 0381) The following Palaeolithic implements have been found in the general area of Iver:- 176 handaxes and 5 roughouts, 9 retouched and 15 unretouched flakes, 2 worked fragments and 5 Levallois flakes. Distribution:- Aylesbury, BM, Cambridge (A&E),Edinburgh (NMA), Hereford, London (Univ Inst Arch), Newcastle (MA) Oxford (Pitt Rivers), Oxford University, and Reading Museums (B12).
Most of the palaeoliths just marked 'Iver' in the earlier collections probably came from the GWR Pit (pref ref 00805) Treacher collected there in the 1890s. (2)
