Description

Grade I. Small stone arch with fluted pilasters supporting entablature and blocking course with inscription, and framing a semi-circular headed arch. Incorporates a medallion of Princess Amelia daughter of George II, to whom the arch was dedicated 1767. Perhaps designed by Thomas Pitt or Lord Temple, or both in partnership (B14).
Included in English Heritage's Buildings at Risk Registers. In 1999 described as priority C: 'Slow decay; no solution agreed'. In 2001-2002 described as priority D: 'Slow decay; solution agreed but not yet implemented' (B37-39).
