Description

INDICATIONS OF THE SITE OF OLD MANOR HOUSE WITH ITS SURROUNDING MOAT, AT THE BOTTOM OF GARLICK HILL & NR PRESENT FARM BUILDINGS (B2).
TRACES OF MOAT-LIKE FEATURE VISIBLE IMMEDIATELY W, S & NE OF UPPER CRANWELL FARM. SECTIONS NOT CONTINUOUS. ONLY W PORTION HOLDS WATER (B3).
NO IDENTIFIABLE EXTANT E W S (B4).

A possible fragment of a medieval and/or post medieval moat ditch is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in small close immediately S of Upper Cranwell Farm and centred at SP 76538 15446, an L-shaped ditch between 8 and 16 metres wide extends 48 metres NW-SE, turning SW for a further 16 metres. It partially encloses a rectilinear platform about 56 x 25 metres (5).
