1ST MENTION OF LAND AT CHETWODE OCCURS IN CHARTER OF 949. AT DOMESDAY (1086) IT WAS HELD BY BISHOP ODO OF BAYEUX. THE CAPITAL MESSUAGE AT CHETWODE IS MENTIONED IN 1224; AT THAT DATE, THE MANOR WAS HELD BY ROBERT DE CHETWODE. NB - WATERMILL HERE 1086 (CASS 5137)(B3).
