Description
Plan Form - SUBRECTANGULAR
FISHPOND/S PART OF SAM. ON E OF MOATED SITE (SEE B5,B12).
APPEAR TO BE 4 PONDS, ALL LYING IN A SMALL PASTURE FIELD, CROSSED TO S BY DRAINS FROM MOAT. TO N, 2 RECTANGULAR, 40 X 50M & 35 X 4M. IN CENTRE, OVAL, 12 X 5M. ALL DRY. TO S, 24 X 6M, WET (B10).
A cluster of medieval and/or post medieval rectilinear hollows are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 70 metres E of Denham Lodge and centred at SP 75451 20550, eight rectilinear hollows vary in size between 14 x 8 metres to 55 x 13 metres. These depressions have been interpreted at fishponds. However, Historic England’s listing states that these earthworks features may not be be fishponds, but rather may be small fields or possibly gardens associated with the former manor house (13-15).
