MOAT PART OF SAM; AREA INSIDE MOAT NOT SCHEDULED. FED BY SPRINGS FROM CHURCH HILL (B4).
NOW CROSSED BY BRIDGE BUT GATEHOUSE POSSIBLY INDICATES A FORMER DRAWBRIDGE. ENCLOSURE WALL OF THIN BRICKS (B3).
FARMHOUSE (FORMERLY A MANSION) WITHIN MOAT (B1).

A medieval/ post medieval moat side is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located at Denham Lodge and centred at SP 75386 20540, the moat forms part of a larger medieval deserted settlement (Bucks HER No. MBC1110 / 0034004000 and MBC1109 / 0034003000). The moat comprises a trapezoidal ditch that varies in width from 8 to 15 metres: the N side is about 64 metres long and up to 8 metres wide, aligned W-E: the W side is about 66 metres long and up to 11 metres wide, aligned SSW-NNE: the S side is about 72 metres long and up to 12 metres wide, aligned WNW-ESE: and the E side is about 91 metres long and up to 15 metres wide, aligned SSW-NNE. The internal platform is about 66 metres SSW-NNE and 56 metres WNW-ESE. From the NE corner of the moat ditch, a sinuous ditch about 3 metres wide extends 80 metres NE (15-17 ).
