SOME TERRACED HOUSE PLATFORMS ON E & W OF HOLLOW WAY. PROBABLY ALSO OTHER HOUSE SITES IN E PART OF THE FIELD, BUT FEATURES NOT DISTINCT DUE TO DISTURBANCE (?QUARRYING) (B5).
NGR TO CENTRE OF SETTLEMENT TRACES (B4).
Earthwork survey and research by English Heritage and University of Leicester for the Whittlewood Project suggests that Lamport developed as a regular settlement along the major north-south valley, with a second focus to the west along the east-west and southwest-northeast trackways . It may have originated in the late Saxon period as a small market centre along a major route. See report for detail (B14).
