Description

OLD PARSONAGE HAD A HALL, OPEN TO THE ROOF; BUT 2 FLOORS WERE SUBSEQUENTLY THROWN ACROSS TO MAKE STORIES. THE WOOD CARVING WAS OF THE EARLY PART OF THE 16TH CENTURY (B1).
TIMBERS OF CHANCEL ROOF IN CHURCH CORRESPOND WITH THOSE IN THE OLD HALL OF THE RECTORY-HOUSE PULLED DOWN IN 1837, [ILLUSTRATION] NUMBERED 7. INTERIOR DIVIDED INTO A WAINSCOTED WALL ON GROUND FLOOR ABOUT 8-9 FT HIGH, 2 BED ROOMS ABOVE OF SAME HEIGHT & 2 CEILED ATTICS ABOVE THOSE. STOOD TO SIMILAR COMPASS POINTS AS CHURCH. E END ORNAMENTED. CARVED ROOF. HALL ASSIGNED TO EDWARD III'S REIGN. PERHAPS THE DE MOLIN'S FAMILY ERECTED THE HALL FOR THE PRIEST (B2).
'Rectory homestead and gardens' shown on 1799 Inclosure map at approximate NGR. Rectory building aligned NW-SE with two wings projecting to the rear and possibly 2 bays projecting to the front (B7).
