WELL PRESERVED TYPICAL DESERTED VILLAGE. EXTENSIVE RIDGE & FURROW AROUND SITE. EARTHWORKS STAND TO GREATEST HEIGHT AT EAST (B7).
SOME HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION, DESERTION DATE UNKNOWN (B8).
SCHEDULED: SAM 29414 (B7).
A rapid survey and an assessment of aerial photographic evidence undertaken in 1997 revealed the extensive earthworks associated with the former village/settlement to the east of the manor, and also the remains of ridge and furrow in the fields to the north east (B11).
Nucleated medieval settlement with extensive earthworks and ridge and furrow field systems known from field survey and historical records of medieval to post-medieval manor of Waldridge - Deserted medieval village surviving as earthworks representing roads, crofts, stock enclosures and an open field system. The village is poorly documented, it is thought that its abandonment could be related to the building of Upper Waldridge Farm (now Waldridge Manor) by the early 17th century. Scheduled (B14).
DMV Waldridge. Very good pattern of roads and crofts, but no house sites visible. Some historical documentation but period of desertion not known. (Nothing apparent on RAF APs) (B12).
Site clearly shown [on 1962 St Joseph AP] (B13).
