Dimensions - Depth/Thickness 0020 m
UPPER 3.6M OF WELL EXCAVATED BY MANSHEAD ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY, THEN SECTIONED BY QUARRYING. REMAINDER EXCAVATED BY PITSTONE LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY. IT WAS 1M IN DIAMETER, BUT TOP 2.5M FUNNEL-SHAPED WIDENING TO 3M DIAMETER. HAND/FOOT HOLDS CUT INTO CHALK AT 40CM INTERVALS. UPPER FILL CONTAINED HUMAN & HORSE SKELETONS; THE REST POTTERY, BONES, BUCKET FITTINGS, ROMAN COIN (B1-2,5).
