Description

Dimensions - Length 60m.
Plan Form - Rectangular?
Only fragment of moat remaining. The fragment of a moat remains at Moat Farm, Ford (probably detail shown on OS 6" 1960, but not described, at SP 780 096) (B1).
Waterfilled remains of probably rectangular homestead moat. SE & parts of NE & SW arms remain & are 9-15m wide. No traces of former course of W half of moat; ground occupied by farm buildings & house (B2).

A moated site with ponds and probable building platforms of probable medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located at Moat Farm, Dinton-with-Ford and Upton, and centred at SP 478002 209666. The remains of the moat and large ponds can seen on lidar visualisations as well as areas which may be the remains of former building platforms. (4-7)

The waterfilled remains of a probably rectangular homestead moat are centred at SP 7796 0962, forming an ornamental feature within the gardens of Moat Farm. The SE, and parts of the NE and SW arms remain and are 9.0 to 15.0m in width. The moat was probably about 60.0m square. An outer extension from the N corner may originally have been a fishpond, as it was till lately separated from the moat. There are no traces of the former course of the W half of the moat; the ground is occupied by farm buildings and the house, which is largely 18th century. Published 1:2500 survey revised (B8).
